Teacher Profiles:

Mrs. Smith – Teacher

Kate has lived in the Bride Valley for 20 years and has three daughters who thrived in their years at Thorner’s.
After gaining a BA (QTS) with Theology and Religious Studies in 1996 at Froebel College, Roehampton Kate taught in St.Catherine’s School, Bridport for 22 years.
Kate is in her third year teaching Litton at Thorner’s. She loves inspiring the Early Years with a fun, creative and enthusiastic approach. Kate enjoys running, music, upholstery and dressmaking.

Mrs Horton – Teacher

Mrs Horton has worked at Thorners for over six years since completing her BEd Primary degree. She specialised in maths and now is the subject coordinator for maths and music. Mrs Horton loves singing to the children in the classroom which the children and Ms Atkin do not always enjoy. When not in school, you can find her walking her dog, reading a book and eating too much chocolate.

Mr. White – Teacher

Sam joined Thorner’s in 2020. He teaches Bredy class which comprises of year 3 and 4 pupils. He read Politics and International Relations at Reading before completing his PGCE at Exeter. This is Sam’s first teaching role, but he has previously spent time at Thorner’s and other Dorset schools during his training year. He is responsible for running tag rugby club. He lives in Dorchester and enjoys a wide range of sports and travelling, he aims to visit a new country every year.

Mrs. Biggins – Teacher

Minty joined Thorner’s in 2018, teaching in Bredy for a year. She teaches Years 5/6 alongside Mr Sitch. Her role as Literacy Co-ordinator is a role close to her heart, being an avid reader and lover of the written word. In addition to Literacy, she is subject leader for RSE. In her home city of Bristol, she forged a brief career in fashion retail prior to training in Primary Education. Minty taught in an inner-city school in Bristol before making the move down to the South coast. She and her husband live with their two young children and dogs. During her free time, she enjoys walking the beautiful local area, reading and running.

School Cook – Mrs Turnbull

Mrs Turnbull started at Thorner’s as bank staff for Fledglings in 2018, and then became school cook in April 2019. She’s now responsible for cooking and serving all the hot lunches, provided by Local Food Links, to all the children. She also helps with the TSA, a parent run fundraising group, which raises additional funds for the school.

Previously she worked at a garden centre for over 10 years where she did various jobs including Houseplant and Giftware Manager and office administrator. Clare lives in the village with her husband and two children and her interests are gardening, arts and crafts, singing and swimming.

Headteacher – Mr Sitch

Mike joined Thorner’s in 2012, and became Headmaster in 2020. He teaches maths and science to Yrs 5/6 – sharing the class with Mrs Biggins. He is also SENDCO for the school. He read Classics and Ancient History at Nottingham and Cambridge and, prior to life as a teacher, he trained and worked as a lawyer in the city for almost a decade. He serves on the Governing Body and is subject leader for Science, PE and French. He and his wife live in the valley with their two young children and he enjoys cooking, cricket and swimming.
